SANCUS BMS Group has hired Metro Bank’s Bob Rowbotham to join its London office as director of business development.

The alternative lender said on Thursday that Rowbotham (pictured) will be responsible for developing relationships and generating business from brokers and borrowers throughout the UK.

His most recent role, as commercial banking director of real estate finance at Metro Bank, involved providing funding packages across commercial and residential property developments and real estate commercial investment portfolios. His experience covers banking, credit and risk management with extensive knowledge of the London and South East property market.

The Sancus BMS Group has provided in excess of £1bn of funding to small- and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs over the last four years. The business offers asset-backed lending solutions, with particular expertise in bridging and development finance.

“As we build out the team in the UK, our strategy has been focussed on finding experienced professionals with a deep understanding of the industry,” said Andrew Whelan, chief executive of The Sancus Group. “The tremendous experience that Bob brings fits that profile perfectly, putting us in a position to respond very rapidly to borrowers and introducers while also giving funders confidence in our underwriting capabilities.”

Sancus operates a syndicated model, with three different sources of funding: Sancus proprietary capital, co-funders and an Institutional funding line. Sancus participates in every loan with its own capital alongside co-funders, which include institutions, family offices, high-net-worth individuals and private clients. Sancus may also draw from a £45m funding line with Honeycomb Investment Trust.
